Great news! The blasphemous play "The Testament of Mary" has been cut short. On April 22, nearly 400 Catholics led by the America Needs Fatima protested the play in which the main character (playing the Blessed Mother) says the whole redemption story was false and in the end entirely disrobes.

Here is the result of  this protest!

Return to Order Signing in St. Louis

st_louisAt an April 21 book signing in St. Louis, Mo., author John Horvat II presented his work, Return to Order: From a Frenzied Economy to an Organic Christian Society—Where We’ve Been, How We Got Here, and Where We Need to Go to St. Joe’s Java coffee shop.

Nearly thirty people attended the signing at the small shop which is actually located in the nearby suburb of St. Charles. St. Joe’s Java and adjoining bookstore is a special apostolate of Lu Cortese who often holds Catholic events at this location.

Her main operation however, is St. Joseph’s Radio. Behind the coffee shop, there is an extensive recording studio that produces quality Catholic programming for radio and television. Her film crew was on hand to film the presentation of the book by its author.

To the French Bishops: Civil Unions are Unacceptable

Avenir de la Culture to the French Bishops: Civil Unions Are Unacceptable
Avenir de la Culture is the French TFP's cultural campaign that has long fought against moral degradation in society and especially as it appears in the media. The group recently sent a respectful appeal to every French Bishop to stand firm on the traditional teachings of the Catholic Church and natural law regarding homosexuality, and considers the bishops’ proposal for “improved civil unions” morally unacceptable. This proposal, it states, is detrimental because it causes division among Catholics and only widens the chasm between the shepherds and militant grassroots desirous of an uninhibited Church.

Avenir de la Culture to the French Bishops:
Civil Unions Are Unacceptable

Avenir de la Culture has just sent every bishop in France a copy of its “Respectful Appeal to the French Bishops: Have No Fear! – The proposal of an improved ‘civil union’ as an alternative to ‘marriage for all’ divides Catholics and weakens the reaction.”

The Respectful Appeal disapproves of a document issued by the French Bishops Conference (FBC) and individual statements by many bishops, including FBC vice-president Most Rev. Hippolyte Simon, Archbishop of Clermont, that the best way to oppose “marriage for all” is to allow the French Government to establish “improved civil unions.”

Avenir de la Culture recalls that the juridical recognition of same-sex unions runs counter to Church teaching that “there is no right at all to the practice of homosexual acts, which therefore cannot become a foundation for legal claims.”

Indeed, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, promulgated by John Paul II teaches that “supported on Holy Scripture, which presents them as grave depravations, Tradition has always stated that “homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered. They are opposed to natural law (no. 2357).

Avenir de la Culture is a French cultural organization that has long fought against moral degradation in society and especially as it appears in the media. The organization considers the bishops’ proposal for “improved civil unions” morally unacceptable and gravely damaging at a decisive moment of the resistance to the homosexual onslaught. It will eventually cause an unprecedented gap between the majority of the faithful and their shepherds.

The following day, December 20, 2012, Avenir de la Culture published a second Press Release reemphasizing the French bishops’ proposal for “improved civil unions” as morally unacceptable, and encouraging them to follow their Divine Master in preaching the truth from the housetops.

Avenir de la Culture to the French Bishops:
If the Salt Loses its Savor, What Will Replace It?

In its appeal to the French Bishops (press release of yesterday, Dec. 19) Avenir de la Culture considers the proposal for “improved civil unions” as an alternative to “marriage for all” as morally unacceptable.

On the strategic plane, this proposal is detrimental because:

 •  It causes division among committed Catholics who are most keenly aware of vital current issues;

 •  It widens the chasm between the shepherds and militant grassroots desirous of an uninhibited Church.

Another troubling aspect of the bishops’ statements on the Taubira projected bill is the complete absence of any religious argument as if the Catholic faith can no longer be affirmed in the public square.

In real life, this carefully secularist language of the vast majority of bishops creates an imbalance simply because the standard bearers of “modernity” are far from timid. They make no secret of their desire not only to shape society according to their ideology but also to cram the minds of our children and grandchildren with their education programs.

Much like Christian Democratic intellectuals, a majority of the French Bishops appear not to see that common ground for dialogue and collaboration between Christianity and the so-called human rights movement has long vanished. Thus, conflict between Christianity and secularist humanism becomes inevitable.

“Catholic grassroots are not of the same opinion [as most of their bishops.] They would like to see representatives of their Church also speak out on behalf of their Faith.

Are we not disciples of a Master who commanded us not to place a candle under a bushel and Who sent us to preach from the housetops?” states Avenir de la Culture in closing its “Respectful Appeal to the Bishops of France: Have No Fear!”

One of the participants wrote this about his expectation to attend the TFP Open House:
“If I can go into a marvelous ambiance, be among well-dressed people with good manners, have intelligent conversation, listen to live (non-synthesized) music, eat some smoked salmon, etc., I will be a happy man.

“Even if it happens only once or twice a year, the potency of the conviviality, good cheer, and Faith enriches my life for the year. It funds, sustains, and empowers me.

“You can have rock stars, actors, celebrities, talk show hosts, gurus, and the rest of the pop culture. I highly recommend this. This is not snobbery. (That is what happens with pseudo-elites like the present administration, its minions, celebrity-supporters, and media attain power.)

“As the fencing instructor here, I can tell you that this is a microcosmic, organic society and hierarchy that works, and to be part of it is to feel fulfilled. Downton Abbey hints at it.  But this is real.  This works.  It is marvelous.”

Video: What Minnesotans Really Think About Same-Sex "Marraige"

After a long 1,200 mile van ride, ten TFP volunteers arrived in Minnesota very eager to begin their ten-day, state-wide tour in support of God-ordained marriage: the union between 1 man and 1 woman. Two additional teams of TFP members also kicked off campaigns in three other states -- Maryland, Maine and Rhode Island -- bringing the total number of young marriage defenders engaged in this vital effort to 32.

Breaking video: Man attacks TFP Volunteers, Assaults American Flag

Free speech is less free in Arkansas.  In fact, volunteers with Tradition Family and Property (TFP—Louisiana) were recently attacked in Little Rock during a peaceful rally against Obamacare and its HHS mandate.  The incident occurred on July 17.

Man Targets American flag

At the McCain Mall in North Little Rock, a middle-aged man came up from behind the group as they calmly prayed the rosary. First he said, “Praise be Mary,” giving the impression he was friendly.  Next he shouted, “Get the hell out of here!” and rushed our American flag bearer Elias Bartel, knocking him off his feet with a violent blow.  Old Glory fell over, but not completely because the 19-foot flag pole caught a power line on the way down and was quickly recovered and set upright again.

“I was pretty shocked…  The first thing he did was target the American flag.  He wanted to throw it on the ground,” said Bartel. “What he did was beyond disrespect.”

Second attack

The attacker did not stop there.  Without pause, he immediately assaulted our second volunteer, Jesus Guerra, who was holding the TFP banner which displays a rampant lion and the motto:  “Tradition, Family, and Property.”  As the video clearly shows, our young volunteer was pushed with such violence that he fell backward onto a fire hydrant.  The banner also fell.

“I’m bruised, but not about to give up,” Guerra remarked.  “The attacker’s behavior reflects the socialist mindset:  if they can’t win the debate, they bully you. If they can’t silence the Church on moral values, they use mandates and intimidation.”

As TFP—Louisiana member Cesar Franco dialed 911, the assailant smacked the phone out of his hand.  Finally, the police arrived and a report was made.

A woman who witnessed the attack approached and asked for a flyer, Confronting Religious Persecution in America.  She told Zechariah Long how great she thought TFP volunteers responded to the aggressor.

The 14-member team is currently touring other Southern cities where the reception has been excellent.  Their message alerts the public about the persecution being brought against the Catholic Church by the Health and Human Services mandate and points to the root problem: socialism.

Following the example set by Bishop Jenky of Peoria, Illinois, who called upon Saint Michael the Archangel in the fight for the rights of the Church, TFP—Louisiana volunteers have placed their tour under his powerful patronage.  The attack did not hinder the progress of the TFP caravan. However, it does follow a troubling pattern documented in the video Attacked by “Tolerance.”

If you are an attorney in the Little Rock, and are willing to represent the TFP volunteers who were attacked, please contact Cesar Franco at cfranco@tfp.org

Join Over 20,000 Who Don’t Want ‘Gay-Straight Alliance’ at Notre Dame

Notre Dame Dome
Catholic students at
Notre Dame don't a
GSA club on campus.
Written by William Stover

The Catholic University of Notre Dame now faces another moral crossroads as pro-homosexual advocacy groups, assisted by the liberal media, pressure the university to sanction a “Gay-Straight Alliance” on campus.

Both the student and faculty senates recently passed non-binding resolutions in favor of establishing an official “Gay-Straight Alliance” club.1 Calling themselves the “4-5 movement” -- a reference to an alleged statistic that 4/5 college-educated people support their cause -- pro-homosexual activists are hoping the university will buckle to their immoral demands.

However, the movement to legitimize homosexual sin does not enjoy widespread support. In fact, a TFP Student Action petition against pro-homosexual clubs on Catholic campuses – including Notre Dame – collected over 20,350 signatures to date among college students and concerned Catholic parents.

The TFP’s online petition urges the president of the University of Notre Dame “not to approve, recognize or finance student clubs or activities that endorse or promote homosexual sin.”

“After inviting pro-abortion president Obama in 2009, Notre Dame once again has two options: To be faithful or to betray; to uphold its Catholic identity or to sell out,” said Tradition Family Property Student Action Director, John Ritchie.

“We hope Fr. John Jenkins will hear the voices of over 20,350 Catholic students and parents and energetically keep the ‘Gay-Straight Alliance,’ or any other equivalent club that fosters that sinful lifestyle, far away from the campus that bears the most pure name of the Blessed Virgin Mary,” he said.

When the homosexual lobby first attempted to start an official club in 1986, the University of Notre Dame’s Board of Fellow’s issued a response, stating that such recognition would be paramount to an “implicit sanction” of a lifestyle “not in keeping with the values of the University or the teachings of the Church.”2

That refusal is just as valid today, especially on the heels of a statement issued by Pope Benedict XVI, warning of “powerful political and cultural currents seeking to alter the legal definition of marriage.”

As the educator of so many young Catholics, we pray that Notre Dame does not cave in to the insidious demands of the homosexual revolution.

Challenging the Left at the University of Michigan

By William Stover

obamacare-caravan09

Ann Arbor, Michigan

Cold weather notwithstanding, today's campaigns were intense. Fliers ready, bagpipes tuned, and logical, sound arguments, prepared, we came into Ann Arbor, to the campus of the University of Michigan. Some say Ann Arbor is the Berkeley of Michigan. Setting up right in the middle of the campus, we were immediately confronted with a polarized public, but Berkeley is far worse.

One woman stopped and said: "Thank you so much for being here, tell everyone in your group 'thank you,' and keep up the good work!" After a short time a police officer arrived to make sure everything was in order. "I can see that you won't cause any trouble, but let me know if anyone gives you trouble," he said, and returned to his car. A few moments later, an upset liberal man threatened to call the police. "You shouldn't have the right to do this," he said. After being informed that we had already spoken with the police, he demanded to see our authorization. When asked what authority he had, he shot back: "don't ask me any questions!"

obamacare-caravan10

As the campaign continued, support and opposition intensified. One student, after reading our flier, returned to thank us and ask how he can get involved in the fight against Obamacare. Another student pointed out how Catholics are being targeted: "I don't think the federal government would force mosques to serve bacon," he said.

"God doesn't want you to do this out here," a passerby affirmed. "God believes in freedom of choice." When asked where the "choice" is for Catholics, he replied: "Well, you got me there. That's a good point."

After wrapping up the university, we finished off the day with a sign and wave campaign at the third busiest intersection in the state of Michigan.

Confronting Religious Persecution in America: Neither Apostasy nor Dhimmitude!

Written by The American TFP
At least 142 U.S. Catholic bishops, representing almost 80% of America’s dioceses, have strongly denounced the religious persecution expressed in the rules promulgated January 20, 2012 by Kathleen Sebelius, Secretary of the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services (HHS), in connection with the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, popularly dubbed “Obamacare.” Other major religious figures like Dr. Albert Mohler quickly followed suit.[1]

Christians Should Fight Back, Not Apostatize

Indeed, according to these rules, health plans are obliged to provide “all Food and Drug Administration-approved contraceptive methods [and] sterilization procedures,”[2] some of which are de facto abortifacients.

The rules provide for a religious exemption which is so narrow that it excludes, for example, most Catholic health institutions. As a result, the ruling puts at risk the quality of healthcare in America since, according to the 2009 American Hospital Association Annual Survey, Catholic institutions comprise some 12.7 percent of the nation’s hospitals. Every year, some 5.6 million people are admitted to these medical facilities.

However, not only Catholic organizations, schools and hospitals are affected by this HHS ruling but all Catholic employers. With such very limited exemptions—the survival of which is uncertain given the growing judicial activism—it is fair to say that the HHS edict affects all God-fearing Americans.

The bishops highlight that the new HHS rules place Catholics in a dilemma: either violate their consciences and the divine mandate to preach the Gospel to all peoples (Mark 16:15), or stop providing healthcare coverage thereby incurring heavy penalties. As for the first option, the bishops state: “We cannot—we will not—comply with this unjust law.”[3] However, the second option is unacceptable since penalties may prove to be “so large they could drive some Catholic employers out of business.”[4] These fines imposed on those refusing to violate their consciences are tantamount to reducing God-fearing Americans to a state of dhimmitude.

**********************************************************

Dhimmitude

In this statement, we use the term “dhimmitude” analogously.

Dhimmitude is the status of subjection applied to Christians and Jews in the countries conquered by Islam. “Adult male dhimmis were required to pay a tax on their income and sometimes on their land. Restrictions and regulations in dress, occupation, and residence were often applied.” [John L. Esposito, s.v. “Dhimmi,” in The Oxford Dictionary of Islam (New York: Oxford University Press, 2003) pp. 67-68.] Although in general, at present, the taxes have been abolished, Christians in Muslim countries continue to live in a state of constant restriction and persecution. [Cf. Robert Spencer, ed., The Myth of Islamic Tolerance: How Islamic Law Treats Non-Muslims (Amherst, N.Y.: Prometheus Books, 2005).]

**********************************************************

Rejecting these two unacceptable alternatives, the protesting American bishops are proposing a third one. They are calling upon all Catholics and men of good will to vigorously engage in the political process to reverse this unjust government diktat that subverts the First Amendment rights of all. They ask Americans to put their muscle behind the Respect for Rights of Conscience Act bill introduced in Congress (H.R. 1179, S. 1467).

The American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family, and Property (TFP) takes the issue further and urges all Americans to address the root problem and abolish socialist “Obamacare” altogether.

Secularism and Socialism

As many bishops have noted, the ideology that lurks behind this measure is secularism. It is hostile to religion and denies the spiritual life and the supernatural.

This secularism, which hails from the Enlightenment philosophies of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, naturally develops into socialism, which is presented as man’s complete liberation from all submission to divine authority.

In fact, socialism not only rejects God but replaces Him with the State. For socialists, the State is almighty, all-knowing and absolute. Unlike Divine Providence, which governs men lovingly, respecting their true freedom as children of God, the socialist State is dictatorial and totalitarian. It is a police state.

The new anti-religious rules implementing “Obamacare” are a natural consequence of this law’s socialistic and statist inspiration. In face of the almighty State, neither individuals nor institutions, whether civil or religious, have true freedom.

Since the State is considered to be the source of everything, human liberties are seen as mere “concessions” that the State can take away as it pleases.

Broaden the Fight: Abolish “Obamacare”

For this reason, in spite of the abject failure of socialism wherever it was tried, “Obamacare” entrusts the State with healthcare in America.

Accordingly, while we ardently support our bishops’ struggle for the sacred freedom to practice God’s Commandments and the various well-meaning legislative bills introduced, we insist on the only true and enduring solution: eliminate socialist State control over healthcare.

We Must Fight in a Spirit of Faith

Our models are Our Lord Jesus Christ, resolutely carrying His Cross to Calvary; and Mary Most Holy who followed her Divine Son in that culminating struggle that purchased our redemption.

Marked with the sign of the Cross, all Catholics must devote their lives to bearing witness to Truth and strive without compromise to uphold the faith in the public square. This is the meaning of the commitment assumed by all at baptism and a consequence of the honor of being Christian.

The struggle is all the more imperative because the very freedom of the Catholic Church in our country is at stake, along with all the other legitimate freedoms that socialism destroys.

We must legally and peacefully fight for our rights everywhere. We must participate in rallies and demand that our elected political leaders respect our religious rights. We must fight with a supernatural conviction and courage that comes from grace obtained through prayer, the sacraments and sacrifice.

Under the patronage of St. Michael the Archangel

Most Rev. Daniel Jenky, bishop of Peoria, Ill., took the excellent initiative of ordering the prayer to St. Michael the Archangel composed by Pope Leo XIII to be recited during all Sunday Masses celebrated in his diocese. He has asked all his priests to announce as the prayer intention “for the freedom of the Catholic Church in America.”

*******************************************

Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel

Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle; be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray: and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all evil spirits who wander through the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
***********************************************

“It is God’s invincible Archangel who commands the heavenly host, and it is the enemies of God who will ultimately be defeated,” the bishop said in a January 24 letter to the Catholics of his diocese.[5]

Bishop Jenky’s request inspires us to place this campaign to abolish “Obamacare” under the patronage of the glorious Archangel and we encourage all Americans to recite the prayer daily.

We also ask the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Immaculate Conception and Patroness of the United States, to intercede for us in this great struggle.

Protest Pro-Abortion Speaker at a Catholic University

While pro-life Americans attended the March for Life in Washington, D.C., the Catholic Jesuit University of Scranton, Pennsylvania, is preparing for something unimaginable.

In fact, they have invited an avowed abortion advocate and former Congresswoman Marjorie Margolies to give the keynote speech at the University on January 28.

The bishop of Scranton, Most Rev. Joseph C. Bambera, asked that the invitation be withdrawn. Unfortunately, his request was rebuffed by university officials. Yes, his request was denied…

It’s unbelievable, but I still think that you and I can make a real difference if we peacefully protest and CALL the university today.

Sign your urgent protest NOW

I invite you to pick up the phone and dial 570-941-7500 right now.

Ask for Fr. Kevin Quinn, president of the University of Scranton and politely urge him to cancel the appearance of pro-abortion advocate Marjorie Margolies.

Your protest was successful last year when two Catholic colleges canceled pro-abortion speakers on campus.

Let’s do it again.

You see, after Ms. Margolies’ congressional career ended, her pro-abortion record only got worse, culminating in her position as Executive Director of the Women’s Campaign Fund, a pro-abortion organization dedicated to “dramatically increasing the number of women in elected office who support reproductive choices and options, from all parties and at all levels of government.”

How can a woman with such a pro-abortion record be invited to give not only a lecture, but a keynote address at a Catholic University, an institution that should be a cornerstone in the defense of innocent life?

This is simply mind boggling.

Thank you for defending innocent life.

Boys Celebrate New Year with Chivalry Program

From far and near, boys gathered to celebrate the New Year and learn about chivalry. The five-day program included interesting talks, lively games and cordial conviviality, culminating with the festive arrival of the New Year with prayers, medieval games and a splendid banquet.

From December 28 to January 2, participants learned about the heroes of the 1st Crusade, Saint John Bosco and his dreams of Hell, as well as the importance of Confession. They discovered the virtues of King Saint Louis IX and watched video footage of TFP street campaigns with keen interest.

To receive information about future youth camps, click here.

A steep climb up Peter’s Mountain in cold conditions was rewarded with a cup of hot chocolate made on the summit, while snow flurries enhanced the beautiful view of the Susquehanna River below.

The boys went to Washington D.C. where they toured the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception and the Franciscan Monastery of the Holy Land. The latter houses a replica of the Holy Sepulchre of Our Lord, a copy of the catacombs and the manger of Bethlehem where Our Lord was born.

Winter Camp
HIRH Prince Bertrand of Orleans-Braganza
presents the memento to one of the young
men.
The trip was completed with dinner: brick oven pizza at the TFP Headquarters in Spring Grove, Penn. Some 40 pizzas were served (about 320 slices).

Shield-ball, tug of war, dodge ball, a challenging obstacle course and prison break, a game with flashlights in the darkness of night, were played with great vigor.

And spiritual activities included the daily recitation of the Holy Rosary and frequent Mass attendance.

As the bell signaled the arrival of the New Year, camp members sang the Creed and recited St. Louis de Montfort’s Consecration to Mary, thus making the first act of the year a prayer to God through His Most Holy Mother. After prayer, a snack awaited. Fine cheese, preserves, mouth-watering pears, hot cider and delicious chocolate accompanied with Christmas carols and good conversation made the day special.

High Mass on New Year’s Day was followed by a sumptuous banquet. During dinner Godfrey of Bouillon entered the hall. Because of his great virtue of purity, he possessed extraordinary strength, which he demonstrated by cutting off the head of a camel in one blow. But the camel was not real. It was only a skit.

A memento was presented to each camp participant by HIRH Prince Bertrand of Orleans-Branganza, a descendent of Saint Louis IX. The memento was a framed picture of Godfrey de Bouillon at the Siege of Jerusalem, inscribed with a quote from the founder of the TFP, Prof. Plinio Correa de Oliviera: “Of the several types of courage a man needs, one of the greatest or THE greatest, is the courage to decide to be pure.”

Winter Camp

(right) who severed the neck of a camel with one blow.
Reinvigorated for the spiritual combat of 2012, the participants headed homewards. They had found new friends at Saint Louis de Montfort Academy, made spiritual steps forward and were filled with expectation and excitement for the upcoming Chivalry camps.
